The idea behind a “cheat day” is that it is a reward for your hard work of resisting by indulging in bad foods. There are many different theories about cheat days and whether or not they are actually need but I will say that a diet is suppose to be something that is sustainable over a long period of time.
The problem is, and this is actually why peoples weight goes up and down, that people set unrealistic goals for themselves. A good example would be someone saying they will only eat chicken breast and broccoli; while I love that dietary plan it is in no way sustainable for a long period of time.
So the best diet is one that you could keep up with for, hopefully, the rest of your life.
So back to “cheat days,” I think they are essential for most people for a long lasting diet. However, it is best that it is a cheat meal instead of a day. Some people say that if you are truly following a accurate diet that one day can not set you back on your personal goal too far; but my retort would be no damage is better then some damage.
