Now money is a huge excuse for why people can not afford to get back into shape. Money should not be an excuse for why you can not do something. There are many different diets that do not require you to pay for “special pills/foods,” and if somebody is telling you that you have to pay for something to lose weight they are trying (9 times out of 10) to scam you. But when it comes to paying to work out there are pros and cons to both side.
Pro: by paying for a gym membership you hold yourself accountable. If you do not go to the gym you essentially are wasting your money and nobody (regardless of how much money you have) wants to waste their money.
Con: you are limited to the time you can workout, you have to waste time commuting and getting ready, strangers with potential conditions/germs, distractions and cost.
I personally feel that the pros of paying for a gym membership out weigh simply working out at home. When you work out in a gym you can make new friends and see new/different ways to work out. But the most important thing that working out in a gym gives that most home gyms can not is the competition. Competition is a huge driving force for me to stay in shape, however if you are the type of person who is easily discouraged then you should definitely start off in your home then transition into the gym.
